If I Were Principal For the Day…

If I were principal for the day, I would make so many different rules…. Firstly, I would allow phones to be used not just before and after school, but also during lunch as well. I believe this is a good rule because kids are addicted to their phones, and they would feel that they have more freedom during the school day if phones were allowed for an extra 30-45 minutes each day. Secondly, I would strongly enforce the current rule that prohibits the vandalization of school property, especially in the restrooms (not just in the boys’ restrooms, but in the girls’ restrooms as well). I strongly feel that only the school rules with minor consequences are enforced. Therefore, I want to ensure that all rules are enforced by school faculty, no matter how major. As a student, I find it frustrating that a single student can violate up to two or three rules a day, and get neither caught nor punished about any of them. Thirdly, I would allow sixth graders to participate in two electives instead of just one. Last year, when I learned that seventh and eighth graders got two electives, I was frustrated! I wanted to have a second elective! Fourthly, I’d like to get rid of all the tables and benches in the Quad area that are off-limits to all students during lunch and break. I think that their very existence encourages kids to break this school rule, which is, in my opinion, very easy to break. Finally, I would hire two to three more campus supervisors to keep watch over the students at break and lunch. I feel that students think that they can break school rules and be inappropriate, but that just won’t fly with me (I would put one in front of the girls’ restrooms who has been enlisted the same task as the supervisor in front of the boys’ restrooms; to check the girls’ pockets to make sure they don’t have any Sharpies hidden in order to help them avoid vandalizing the restrooms.
